Former FCSB midfielder Baba Alhassan has revealed that his decision to represent Uganda at international level came only after waiting in vain for an opportunity with Ghana’s Black Stars.
The 25-year-old, who is currently a free agent after leaving Romanian champions FCSB, admitted that he had always hoped to wear the colours of Ghana but eventually decided to pursue his international career elsewhere.
Speaking about the decision, Alhassan explained that he reached a point in his career where he could no longer afford to wait.
“I waited a long time for a call-up to the Ghana national team, but it never came. At one point, I felt it was the right stage of my career to play international football, so I decided to represent Uganda. It has also helped me in terms of building my profile.”
The midfielder featured 26 times for FCSB last season, accumulating 1,107 minutes and contributing two assists as the Romanian giants competed domestically and in Europe.
Now searching for a new club, Alhassan will be hoping to secure a fresh challenge while continuing his international career with Uganda.
