Black Princesses Eliminate South Africa to Advance in U-20 World Cup Qualifiers

Ghana’s Black Princesses booked their place in the next stage of the FIFA U‑20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over South Africa’s U-20 women’s team.

The first leg of the fixture ended in a 2–2 stalemate at the Accra Sports Stadium last weekend, and this narrow win secured a 3–2 aggregate triumph in favour of Ghana.

It was an intense first half, with both nations pushing hard for qualification. South Africa started brightly, pressing for an early goal to keep their qualification hopes alive.

However, the Ghanaian backline stood firm and defended resolutely.
In the 33rd minute, Precious Asante came close to opening the scoring for Ghana, but she was unlucky to miss the opportunity.

The second half began on a positive note for the Black Princesses, as head coach Charles Sampson made two changes. Agnes and Ivy did not return to the pitch, making way for Jessica and Sarah a substitution that underlined the coach’s determination to secure victory.

The game then turned into a tense end-to-end contest, with both sides searching for the decisive goal. Fortunately for Ghana, Princisla Mensah delivered the moment of magic, coming off the bench to score in the 63rd minute and give the Black Princesses the lead.

Ghana will now await their next opponent as they continue their quest to qualify for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
