Ghana U-20 women’s national team produced a spirited second-half comeback to defeat Uganda women’s national team 2-1 in their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana were dealt an early setback when Uganda struck in the 32nd minute, silencing the home crowd and taking a deserved lead into the break.
The hosts responded strongly after halftime, showing renewed urgency and purpose. Their pressure paid off in the 58th minute when substitute Priscilla Mensah powered home a header to restore parity and spark momentum.
Ghana continued to dominate proceedings, but Uganda’s goalkeeper kept her side in the contest with a series of crucial saves. However, the breakthrough eventually came in the 85th minute, as Latifa Abesik finished off a well-crafted move following a precise delivery from Jessica Appiah.
Mensah nearly added a third late on but was denied twice by the woodwork as the Princesses pushed for a more comfortable margin.
The victory gives Ghana a slender advantage heading into the return leg in Uganda, with qualification still firmly within reach.
