Ghana’s Black Queens have withdrawn from the upcoming three-nation women’s tournament in Tanzania, opting to continue preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Accra.
The tournament, scheduled to take place in Dar es Salaam from June 1 to June 9, was expected to feature Ghana, hosts Tanzania and Malawi during the June FIFA international window.
The competition was viewed as an important opportunity for the Black Queens to gain valuable match practice ahead of next year’s continental showpiece. However, Ghana will no longer participate after pulling out of the event.
Although no official reason has been provided for the decision, the withdrawal means Tanzania and Malawi will have to revise plans for the competition.
Despite missing out on the tournament, the Black Queens are expected to remain active during the international break.
The team will continue its preparations in Accra, where the technical team is reportedly arranging a series of friendly matches to keep players sharp and maintain momentum ahead of WAFCON.
The June window had been identified as a key stage in Ghana’s build-up to the continental tournament, with the coaching staff focused on strengthening the squad and assessing players before the competition.
With WAFCON 2026 still firmly in sight, attention now turns to the alternative preparations planned for the Black Queens as they continue their quest to build a competitive team capable of challenging Africa’s best.
