The ongoing X1 Energy Drink DOL Super Cup has caught the attention of the Black Satellites technical team, with the national U-20 coach Maxwell Konadu praising the competitiveness of the tournament and the quality of players on display.
The gaffer has been monitoring matches at the competition as part of the broader search for emerging talent, with several games providing an opportunity to assess players in a competitive environment.
He singled out the recent encounter between Semper Fi and Nsuopon Fidelity as one of the matches that particularly impressed him.
“So far, the games we have watched have been very competitive. To be honest, the players are demonstrating some very good qualities, and we have been quite impressed, especially with the last game we watched between Semper Fi and Nsuopon Fidelity.”
The tournament, however, has also presented a challenge for the technical team, with some of the players who have caught their attention already above the U-20 age category.
“Unfortunately for me, some of the players we have looked at or seen are a bit above the U-20 age category. However, there are some very good players in this tournament.”
Beyond talent identification, the experienced tactitian believes the Super Cup is serving an important purpose for the participating clubs, particularly those preparing for the new Ghana Premier League season.
“The tournament is also helping some teams that may be competing in the Premier League, as they are using it as a preparatory competition. So, it is really beneficial to both the clubs and the players.”
The semi-finals will be played tomorrow, with Attram de Visser FC taking on Semper Fi at 10:00am in the opening fixture. The second semi-final will follow at 4:00pm, with Ebusua Dwarfs facing Nsuopon Fidelity.
