Black Starlets Set for Algeria Opener as CAF Releases U-17 AFCON Fixtures

Two-time champions Ghana national under-17 football team have learned their group stage schedule for the upcoming 2026 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations following the official fixture release by Confederation of African Football.

Ghana have been drawn in a competitive Group D alongside Senegal national under-17 football team, South Africa national under-17 football team and Algeria national under-17 football team.

The Black Starlets will kick off their campaign against Algeria on May 14 at 19:00 GMT, before facing Senegal in their second group match on May 17 at 16:00 GMT. They will conclude their group stage fixtures against South Africa on May 20 at 19:00 GMT.

The tournament, scheduled to run from May 13 to June 2, 2026 in Morocco, also carries significant stakes beyond continental glory.

According to the Ghana Football Association, qualification for the global stage is within reach, with the eight quarter-finalists automatically booking places at the FIFA U-17 World Cup. In addition, the two best third-placed teams will also qualify, ensuring Africa is represented by ten nations.

With a rich history in the competition, the Black Starlets will be aiming to make a strong impression as they return to the continental stage and chase a place at the world tournament.
