Black Starlets Set for Do-or-Die Clash Against South Africa

Ghana will take on South Africa in a crucial Group D clash at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations as the Black Starlets attempt to rescue their campaign in Morocco.

Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum oversaw the team’s final training session on Tuesday evening, with preparations centred on tactical organisation, finishing drills, defensive structure and set-piece situations ahead of the decisive fixture.

The Black Starlets go into the match knowing only victory can realistically keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive after managing just one point from their opening two matches.

Ghana started the tournament with a 2-2 draw against Algeria before suffering a narrow 1-0 loss to defending champions Senegal.

A positive result against South Africa would greatly improve Ghana’s chances of advancing while also keeping alive their hopes of qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Despite the difficult start to the competition, the atmosphere within camp is understood to remain upbeat, with players showing determination and intensity throughout preparations for the encounter.

Ogum and his technical staff are expected to focus heavily on discipline, composure and efficiency in attack against a South African side equally eager to secure qualification from the group.

Ghana also received a major boost ahead of the match after the entire squad completed training without any injury concerns.

The players were further motivated by visits and encouragement from Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and former Ghana midfielder Bernard Yao Kumordzi ahead of the important showdown.

The Black Starlets will now be hoping to deliver a strong performance and revive their campaign at the continental tournament.
