Ghana’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers officially got underway on Monday, with the Black Stars holding their opening training session at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The initial session was a low-key affair, with only seven players reporting for training as the squad continued to assemble ahead of the team’s opening Group C fixture against Côte d’Ivoire.

Caleb Yirenkyi, Gideon Mensah, Kwasi Sibo, Christopher Bonsu Baah, Ronald Donkor, Kojo Oppong Peprah and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare were the players involved in the first workout.

The small group was largely due to the staggered arrival of the players, with additional members of Carlos Queiroz’s squad expected to join camp later on Monday.

Queiroz and his technical staff used the session to begin implementing their plans for Thursday’s challenging assignment against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké.
The Black Stars are determined to launch their latest AFCON qualification campaign on a positive note after failing to reach the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
Their opening fixture will be followed by another important Group C encounter, with Ghana returning to Accra to host The Gambia three days after the trip to Côte d’Ivoire.
With the squad expected to reach full strength as more players arrive, Queiroz will be hoping to have his team fully prepared for the demanding start to the qualifying campaign.
