Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances ahead of their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting his players are ready to rise to the occasion against Panama.
The four-time African champions will begin their Group L campaign at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17, with hopes of laying down an early marker in a group that also includes England and Croatia.
Despite facing challenges during preparations, including limited friendly matches and concerns over the fitness of some players, Queiroz believes the squad is mentally and physically ready for the task ahead.
The experienced Portuguese tactician has remained positive throughout Ghana’s build-up and is convinced his side can overcome any obstacles standing in their way.
“We’re strong, and we’re going to make it,” Queiroz said in an interview with Asempa FM.
His comments reflect the growing belief within the Black Stars camp as the team completes its final training sessions in Toronto.
Queiroz, who took charge shortly before the tournament, has focused on building confidence and unity within the squad as Ghana seeks to make a strong impression on football’s biggest stage.
A positive result against Panama would significantly boost Ghana’s chances of advancing from the group before difficult encounters against England and Croatia later in the tournament.
With the countdown to kick-off nearing its end, Queiroz and his players are determined to prove they are ready to compete and make the nation proud at the World Cup.
