CECAFA U20 AFCON QUALIFIERS: Laryea Kingston leads Uganda U20 to 4-1 win over Djibouti

Ghanaian coach Laryea Kingston began Uganda’s U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a winning note after guiding the Hippos to a convincing 4-1 victory over Djibouti in Tanzania.

Uganda made their intentions clear from the start and produced a dominant performance to collect all three points in their opening Group B fixture. The result gives Kingston’s side an ideal start as they seek to progress from the qualifying tournament and secure a place at next year’s U20 AFCON to be hosted by Ghana.

Isima Magala was the star of the afternoon for Uganda, scoring twice to put his side firmly in control. Genesis Odiya and Richard Okello were also on target, with their goals completing a four-goal haul for the Hippos.

Djibouti managed to find a consolation goal, but it was not enough to prevent Uganda from securing a comfortable victory. Kingston’s team maintained their composure and saw out the game to open their campaign with an emphatic scoreline.

The victory will provide a major confidence boost for Kingston and his young Ugandan side ahead of their remaining Group B fixtures. Uganda will next turn their attention to Sudan as they continue their quest for qualification to the U20 AFCON on home soil in Ghana.
