Head coach of the Nigeria national football team, Eric Chelle, could be heading toward an uncertain future as fresh reports link him with a possible move to Angola.
The 48-year-old tactician, who took charge in January 2025 on a two-year contract, is entering the final year of his deal with the Nigeria Football Federation. Since his appointment, Chelle guided Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Eagles impressed with their attacking style of play.
However, the Angolan Football Federation are reportedly keen on luring him away and have returned with an improved proposal after failing in an earlier attempt. Angola are currently without a permanent head coach following their disappointing AFCON campaign and are eager to rebuild.
While the NFF has publicly expressed interest in extending Chelle’s stay, negotiations over a new deal are yet to be finalized. With time ticking on his current contract, uncertainty remains over whether he will commit to Nigeria long-term or explore opportunities elsewhere, including reported interest from European clubs.
The coming weeks are expected to be decisive as Nigeria look to maintain continuity ahead of their upcoming international assignments.
