Ghana international Derrick Luckassen has completed a move to Red Star Belgrade, joining the Serbian champions on a free transfer after leaving Cypriot side Pafos FC.
The experienced 31-year-old defender has signed a three-year contract with the Belgrade outfit, where he will team up with fellow Ghanaians Osman Bukari and Douglas Owusu as Red Star prepare for another title defence and their upcoming European campaign.
Luckassen arrives in Serbia after two successful seasons with Pafos, where he established himself as one of the club’s most reliable defenders following his move from Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv. He also enjoyed a solid 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with the Black Stars, making two appearances and scoring in Ghana’s group-stage clash against Croatia.
The move adds another chapter to the defender’s well-travelled career, having previously featured in the Netherlands, England, Turkey, Israel and Cyprus before making the switch to Serbia. His experience is expected to strengthen Red Star’s defence as they compete both domestically and in Europe.
Luckassen is expected to report to his new teammates immediately and begin preparations for the 2026/27 season, where he will be aiming to help Red Star maintain their dominance in Serbian football alongside compatriots Osman Bukari and Douglas Owusu, while also making an impact in European competitions.
