Eric Tinkler Admits Kotoko Didn’t Deserve Win Against Debibi United

Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has conceded that his side’s 2-2 stalemate against newly promoted Debibi United on opening weekend was a fair reflection of the match, admitting his team fell short of deserving all three points.

The Porcupine Warriors traveled to the Golden City Park in Berekum on Sunday looking to launch their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign in style, but despite drawing first blood, they were forced to fight from behind just to rescue a draw.

Reflecting on the performance during his post-match press conference, Tinkler didn’t mince words about his frustrations, particularly pointing out defensive lapses that allowed the hosts back into the contest.

“I think it’s a fair outcome because, ultimately, I don’t think we did enough to win this game. The performance itself I was not entirely happy with how we conceded the goals. We knew exactly where the threat came from and we allowed the goals that we conceded. The performance, it was not enough. The draw is a fair outcome,” Tinkler told reporters.

With the opening-day hurdle now behind them, the Porcupine Warriors will turn their focus toward a bounce-back opportunity as they prepare to host Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi next weekend.
