Swiss Super League side FC Winterthur have completed the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Essiam on loan from FC Basel, with the deal running until the summer of 2027.
The move forms part of Winterthur’s long-term plan to reinforce their central midfield, with the club viewing Essiam as a dynamic and energetic option capable of adding balance and intensity to the engine room.
The 22-year-old Ghana U-23 international began his professional career at Berekum Chelsea, where his impressive performances in the Ghana Premier League earned him a move to Europe in early 2022. He joined FC Basel and has since built solid experience in Swiss football.
Essiam has gone on to make over 40 appearances across the Swiss Super League, Challenge League, and Swiss Cup, featuring for FC Basel as well as on loan spells with Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy and FC Aarau.
After a period affected by injuries, the midfielder spent time on loan at Belgian second-division outfit Royal Francs Borains, where he worked to regain match fitness and sharpness. He later returned to Basel following a reshuffle at the club and remains under contract there until 2028.
A winner of the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations with Ghana, Essiam now gets the opportunity for a fresh chapter at FC Winterthur, where he is expected to strengthen the heart of midfield once he fully settles into his new environment.
