The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has named Yaw Preko as the Head Coach of the National U-15 boys team with immediate effect, as part of their concerted efforts to enhance youth development structures and consistently supply quality talent to various age group teams.
Preko, a former Ghana international with an impressive playing career at Belgium’s Anderlecht and Ghana’s Accra Hearts of Oak, assumes this role following Abdul Karim Zito’s transition to the Male U-19 team.
Having previously served as Head Coach of the Ghana U20 team and as National U-17 Assistant Coach, Preko brings significant coaching experience to his new position. He also boasts managerial experience at club level with stints at Medeama SC, Great Olympics, Accra Hearts of Oak, and Nigeria’s Ifeanyi Ubah.
Assisting Preko will be Awudu Issaka and Mubarak Sumaila Gardo. Issaka, a former U-17 World Cup Winner and founder of the Royal Awudu Issaka Academy, brings his wealth of developmental experience to the role.
On his part, Mubarak is a young enterprising coach who was the assistant coach of BYF Academy and was the Youth Development coach for Nations FC, a Ghana Premier League club.
Preko and his new coaching team are tasked with identifying top talent, understanding their individual strengths and development needs, and aligning their playing style with Ghana’s football philosophy.
These appointments signal a concerted effort by the GFA to establish a solid foundation for youth player development, in line with Ghana’s football development approach.
