Ghana Target AFCON Redemption as Government Raises Expectations

The Ghana national team are under increasing pressure to deliver at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations after Kofi Adams set a clear performance benchmark.

The Sports Minister made it known that Ghana must return to competing at the highest level on the continent following a dip in recent performances.

“Considering our name and pedigree, anything below the quarter-finals means it would have been better if we hadn’t gone,” Adams said.

The Black Stars have struggled in recent years, including a failure to qualify for AFCON and consecutive group-stage exits, raising concerns about the team’s direction.

Adams emphasized that expectations must reflect Ghana’s football history and status in African football.

“We must set a standard and let the players know the flag they are holding,” he added.

With qualifiers yet to begin, focus now shifts to rebuilding the squad and restoring confidence within the team. The technical setup will be expected to shape a competitive side capable of meeting the minimum target set by the government.

The upcoming campaign presents an opportunity for Ghana to re-establish itself among Africa’s elite and respond to growing expectations from both officials and supporters.
