FIFA President Gianni Infantino has addressed concerns surrounding referee Omar Artan, stressing that FIFA’s role is limited to football matters and does not extend to controlling governments or national security agencies.
Speaking on the issue, Infantino emphasized that FIFA remains a sporting organization committed to promoting unity and finding solutions through football rather than intervening in political or security affairs.
“We do not control everything that happens in the world. We do not control countries or their security apparatus. We operate on the sporting side—we are a sports organization,” Infantino said.
The FIFA president explained that while global events can sometimes affect football, the governing body’s primary responsibility is to manage and develop the sport worldwide.
“We strive to unite the world and work towards finding solutions to all the problems that occur,” he added.
Infantino’s comments come amid growing discussion surrounding referee Omar Artan and the circumstances connected to his situation. The FIFA chief’s remarks suggest that while the organization remains aware of developments, its focus remains on ensuring the integrity and smooth running of football competitions.
FIFA has consistently positioned football as a tool for bringing people together across different cultures and nations, with Infantino reiterating the organization’s commitment to unity through sport.
