Bundesliga side FC Köln have officially unveiled Ghana international Gideon Mensah as their newest signing ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Black Stars left-back joins the German club on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract with French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre, signing a two-year deal that will keep him at the RheinEnergie Stadion until 2028.
Mensah arrives in Cologne after an impressive campaign with Auxerre, where he made 31 appearances in all competitions, before capping the season by representing Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 27-year-old featured in all four of the Black Stars’ matches as Ghana reached the Round of 32 for the first time since the 2010 tournament, further enhancing his reputation with a series of composed displays.
Speaking after his unveiling, FC Köln expressed confidence that Mensah’s experience at club and international level would strengthen the squad as they prepare for the new Bundesliga season.
The move also marks a return to German football for the Ghanaian defender, who previously had a spell with Greuther Fürth and is already familiar with the demands of the Bundesliga.
Mensah will now look to establish himself as a key figure in Köln’s defence as the club begins preparations for the upcoming campaign.
