Heart of Lions Seal First Win with Stoppage-Time Winner

Heart of Lions staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Young Apostles 2-1 in a thrilling Ghana Premier League Matchday 4 encounter at the Nana Abrefa Nketia VII Stadium in Wenchi on Sunday.

Young Apostles made a dream start, taking the lead just four minutes into the game through Samuel Prempeh. The early goal gave the hosts confidence as they looked to bounce back from their heavy 3-0 defeat to Debibi United in their previous outing.

Heart of Lions gradually settled into the contest and improved after the break, eventually finding their way back into the game in the 55th minute. Francis Odoom converted from the penalty spot to restore parity and bring the visitors level.

The Kpando-based side were reduced to 10 men ten minutes later when Abdul Jalilu received a red card in the 65th minute. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Lions continued to push forward in search of a winning goal rather than settling for a point.

Their persistence was finally rewarded deep into stoppage time when Mustapha Yakubu struck in the 95th minute to complete the turnaround and give Heart of Lions a dramatic 2-1 victory.

The result gives Heart of Lions a major boost as they secure their first win of the 2026/27 campaign. Young Apostles, meanwhile, will rue their inability to protect their early lead and take advantage of their numerical superiority after Jalilu’s dismissal.
