Hearts of Oak beat Bechem United to secure first win of the season

Accra Hearts of Oak has secured their first win of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, defeating Bechem United in a Matchday 3 clash at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Phobians, who had suffered two consecutive losses, delivered a much-improved performance that finally broke their winless streak.

New signing Ransford Mensah opened the scoring early in the second half with a stunning free-kick from the edge of the box, giving Hearts the lead and energizing the team, who had struggled to find the back of the net in their previous games.

Hearts’ last season’s top scorer, Hamza Issah, extended the lead with a powerful header  in the 75th minute to seal the win for the Phobians.

Despite some defensive lapses that allowed Bechem to level at 2-2 temporarily, the Phobians’ overall control of the match was evident.

The victory came as a huge relief for manager Aboubakar Ouattara, who faced criticism from fans following the team’s poor start to the campaign.

Hearts of Oak will face Nations FC away at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in their next GPL game, while Bechem United will host Dreams FC in their next fixture.
