Hearts of Oak will aim to continue their push for the top of the table when they host Berekum Chelsea in a Ghana Premier League match at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon on Sunday.
The Phobians enter the contest full of confidence following their narrow 1-0 victory over rivals Asante Kotoko in the Super Clash. That win helped strengthen morale within the squad as they continue chasing league leaders Medeama SC, who sit ahead of them on the standings.
Sunday’s encounter also carries a special storyline as former Hearts of Oak head coach Samuel Boadu returns to face his former employers. Now in charge of Berekum Chelsea, Boadu will be hoping to inspire his side to upset their more fancied opponents while improving their survival chances.
Hearts of Oak have been in impressive league form, going five matches without defeat, recording three wins and two draws. Remarkably, they have kept clean sheets in all five games, highlighting the team’s strong defensive organisation. So far this season, the club has conceded only seven goals in the league.
Although their overall record has been solid, Hearts have experienced some inconsistency at home, a factor they will want to correct despite their dominant recent history against Berekum Chelsea, especially at the Legon venue.
Berekum Chelsea, on the other hand, are battling to stay above the relegation zone. They occupy 15th position with 26 points after a campaign that has been largely difficult, particularly away from home. The side are yet to win on the road this season, managing three draws and suffering eight defeats in their travels.
The visitors will be encouraged by their previous win over Heart of Lions but will face a tough challenge against a disciplined Hearts side.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 3:00pm on Sunday.
