Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Enoch Morrison has revealed that he chose to join Gor Mahia due to a more attractive offer.
The 24 year old versatile midfielder who recently signed a two-year contract with the Kenyan club following the termination of his deal with Kotoko, was rumored to sign for Hearts of Oak before switching to East Africa.
Morrison explained that the higher salary offered by Gor Mahia was a decisive factor in his decision.
He criticized the salary structure of Ghanaian clubs, stating that no player in the Ghana Premier League currently earns more than 12,000 cedis.
“I would have joined Hearts of Oak if their offer had been even remotely close to what Gor Mahia is paying me. The salaries in Ghana are quite low compared to what foreign clubs offer, making it difficult for local teams to compete,” Morrison said in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM.
Morrison also stressed that Ghanaian clubs need to better support their players under the current financial conditions.
“During my time at Kotoko, I couldn’t earn a decent living. I believe that players at clubs like Hearts or Kotoko should earn at least Gh¢12,000 to Gh¢13,000 to sustain themselves properly,” he added.
