Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town have bolstered their squad with the permanent signing of Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku from Leicester City.
The 22-year-old winger has penned a five-year deal that will keep him at Portman Road until the summer of 2031.
Fatawu arrives at Ipswich after an impressive campaign with Leicester City, where he found the back of the net nine times in 44 appearances during the 2025/26 season. He also featured prominently for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, playing in all four of the Black Stars matches, including the high-profile group-stage clash against England.
The Tamale-born attacker brings valuable top-level experience despite his young age. Before moving to England, he represented Portuguese giants Sporting CP, where he gained UEFA Champions League experience. He later helped Leicester earn promotion to the Premier League before continuing to establish himself in England’s top flight.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Fatawu expressed his delight at joining the Suffolk-based club.
“I’m delighted to be here. Ipswich Town is a club with clear ambition, and that made the decision an easy one for me. After my conversations with the manager, I understood the direction the club is heading, and I’m excited to contribute.”

Ipswich manager Gary O’Neil believes the Ghana international will add another dimension to his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
“Abdul has already built up excellent experience for a player of his age,” O’Neil said.
“He’s quick, technically gifted, enjoys taking on defenders, and gives us another exciting attacking option. His performances for both club and country show the quality he possesses, and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
Fatawu is expected to link up with his new teammates immediately at the club’s pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain.
The winger began his football journey with Steadfast FC in Tamale before enjoying a loan spell at Dreams FC, where his impressive performances earned him a move to Sporting CP in 2022.
On the international stage, Fatawu first rose to prominence after being named the Best Player at the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, leading Ghana to the continental title. Since making his senior debut later that year, he has accumulated 32 international appearances and scored three goals for the Black Stars.
Having represented Ghana at both the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2026 edition in North America, Fatawu now turns his attention to helping Ipswich Town establish themselves back in the Premier League.
