Ghana’s U17 technical team is currently assessing talented youngster Jamil Abubakar as preparations intensify ahead of the upcoming U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for April.
Jamil, who was born in Canada to Ghanaian parents, currently plays for the youth side of French club Le Havre and has recently joined the Black Starlets camp for evaluation.
Speaking about the player in an interview with Augustine Quansah, Assistant Coach Nana Kweku Agyemang described Jamil as a highly gifted footballer but stressed that he is yet to secure a place in the squad.
“He’s a very talented lad, technically great, but he’s been in camp for a few days so we’re hoping that he’ll pick up,” Coach Agyemang said.
The assistant coach further explained that the technical team will only add the youngster to the final squad if he proves to be better than the players currently in camp.
“If he proves to be better than those who are here, we will add him,” he added.
The Black Starlets are fine-tuning their squad as they aim to assemble the strongest possible team for the continental showpiece, with competition for places expected to be intense.
