Kofi Adams: Government Has No Power to Dissolve GFA

Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has ruled out the possibility of the government dissolving the Ghana Football Association (GFA), explaining that the association is a legally registered body.

His comments follow growing calls for changes within the country’s football administration after the Black Stars suffered back-to-back defeats in their opening matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

“I don’t think government has the power [to dissolve the GFA],” Adams told Joy Sports.

The Black Stars began their Group C campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before suffering another setback at home, losing 4-2 to The Gambia in Accra.

The two defeats have intensified criticism of the national team and the wider administration of Ghana football, with sections of the public calling for major changes following the disappointing start.

However, Adams indicated that the government could take action if officials of the GFA are found to have committed a criminal offence. The minister’s comments come as pressure continues to mount on the football authorities to respond to concerns surrounding the Black Stars and their poor start to the qualifiers.
