Kofi Adams has suggested he would not be surprised if André Ayew earns a recall to the Ghana national football team squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The Sports and Recreation Minister noted that the experienced forward remains active at club level and continues to demonstrate form that could keep him in contention for national team selection.
Ayew, Ghana’s most capped player and a former captain of the Black Stars, has represented the country in multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments as well as previous World Cup editions. Despite being 36 years old, he has maintained his professional career, which has fuelled ongoing debate about his international future.
“Once he has not retired and is still playing actively, I will not be shocked to see him in the World Cup squad,” Adams told Adom FM, stressing that final squad decisions rest solely with coach Otto Addo.
Since joining NAC Breda during the winter transfer window, Ayew has featured regularly in the Dutch top division, making eight appearances and delivering encouraging performances that have kept discussions about his possible World Cup involvement alive.
As Ghana continue assembling a competitive team for the global tournament, the veteran attacker’s name is expected to remain part of selection conversations in the coming months. The Black Stars are working to build a squad capable of challenging strongly on football’s biggest stage.
