Asante Kotoko have been dealt a crushing injury blow following confirmation that deputy skipper Lord Amoah has suffered a major knee setback.
The dynamic right-back picked up the injury during Kotoko’s 2-0 victory over Young Apostles in Wenchi. After a heavy challenge late in the game, Amoah was unable to continue and was quickly attended to by the club’s medical staff before being transported to Kumasi for further examination.
Subsequent MRI scans revealed damage to both the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the medial meniscus, a combination that typically requires surgical intervention and a lengthy rehabilitation period.
Although initial reports varied on the exact timing of the incident, the outcome remains the same. Amoah now faces an extended spell on the sidelines. The defender is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days as specialists assess the full recovery timeline.
The setback is a significant one for the Porcupine Warriors. Since arriving from Berekum Chelsea ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, Amoah has grown into a central figure within the squad.
This season alone, he has made 23 appearances across competitions and remarkably contributed nine goals, an impressive return for a full-back.
His absence was already felt when Kotoko featured in their Matchday 24 fixture against Vision FC at the Baba Yara Stadium, where they were held to a draw.
Beyond club level, the injury could also affect Amoah’s rising prospects on the international stage, with reports suggesting he had been under consideration for a potential Ghana national team call-up ahead of upcoming friendlies.
For now, Kotoko must prepare to navigate a crucial phase of the campaign without one of their most influential performers, as Amoah begins what is expected to be a demanding road to recovery.
