Kotokoli advanced to the quarterfinals of the Inter Tribe Football Gala after defeating Gurma 4-3 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw in regulation on Tuesday’s round 16 match.
Abdul Rauf scored for Kotokoli just ten minutes into the game, but Junior equalized for Gurma in second-half stoppage time, sending the match to penalties.
Despite dominating the game, Gurma’s pressure only paid off late, with Kotokoli missing chances, including a crossbar hit and a cleared header.
In the second half, Gurma intensified their efforts, and their persistence paid off when Junior scored from a free kick in stoppage time, taking the game to penalties.
Kotokoli’s goalkeeper emerged as the hero, saving the last two Gurma penalties to secure their spot in the quarterfinals.
Nazir Mohammed of Gurma was named Man of the Match despite his team’s defeat.
