Kudus Provides First Premierd League Assist of Season in Tottenham Defeat

Ghana international Mohammed Kudus registered his first Premier League assist of the 2026/27 season as Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Kudus was introduced at the beginning of the second half by head coach Roberto De Zerbi and made an immediate impact as Tottenham attempted to fight back from a three-goal deficit.

The 26-year-old set up Conor Gallagher for Tottenham’s first goal in the 86th minute after receiving the ball and creating the opportunity for his teammate to finish.

Kudus had earlier found the back of the net for Tottenham during the second half, but the effort was ruled out for offside as Spurs continued their search for a breakthrough.

His assist against Villa marks his first in the Premier League this campaign and comes shortly after he returned to Tottenham’s starting lineup for their Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool.

Tottenham appeared to have rescued a point after scoring twice late in the match, but Aston Villa held on to secure a 3-2 victory.

The result means De Zerbi’s side remain without a Premier League victory this season.

Kudus’ return to action also comes at an important period for the Ghana national team. The midfielder missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering an injury that kept him out for seven months, but he has now returned to the Black Stars squad.

He is expected to link up with Carlos Queiroz’s team for Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, as well as the international friendly against Morocco.

Ghana will face Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24 before hosting The Gambia in Accra on September 29. The Black Stars will then travel to Morocco for the October 4 friendly.

Kudus will now be hoping to build on his latest contribution as he prepares to return to international duty with Ghana.
