Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku Calls for Urgent Improvement in Coaching Standards

Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has called for concerted efforts to improve the quality of coaching in the country, stressing that technical development remains a major priority for Ghana football.

He explained that the current standard of coaching requires serious attention, adding that the federation is focused on strengthening the professional and tactical capacity of trainers across all levels of the sport.

The GFA president noted that concerns about coaching education, outdated training techniques and limited access to advanced certification programmes have been longstanding challenges affecting football development in the country.

Although Ghana continues to boast a rich football tradition and has recorded success at youth level, he said gaps in modern coaching methodologies and structured development pathways have sometimes slowed player growth and club performance.

The remarks were made during the ongoing Confederation of African Football Licence A coaching course held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

He also referenced discussions from the 2023 GFA Congress in Kumasi, where stakeholders identified coaching and refereeing as critical areas requiring urgent attention.

Okraku reiterated that improving coaching education is essential to enhancing the competitiveness of Ghanaian football at both domestic and international levels.

The CAF Licence A programme is part of the federation’s strategy to expose coaches to modern tactical ideas, player development systems and global best practices to support the growth of the game.
