Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has expressed confidence that Ghana will bounce back from its recent disappointment and secure qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Following the end of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, attention has now turned to the upcoming AFCON qualifiers, which begin in September. The Black Stars are determined to return to the continental showpiece after missing out on the previous edition.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, the St. Gallen shot-stopper said the current squad possesses the quality and determination needed to book a place at the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
“If you look at the players we have, I think we have what it takes to qualify for the AFCON next year. These are young and hungry players,” Ati-Zigi said.
The goalkeeper also backed the team to make a strong impact on the continental stage once qualification is secured.
“I believe we can make a statement with what we have as a group in the AFCON next year,” he added.
Ghana have been drawn in Group C of the qualifiers alongside Ivory Coast, Gambia and Somalia, with the Black Stars aiming to begin the campaign strongly when the fixtures get underway later this year.
The Black Stars will now begin preparations for the September qualifiers as they seek a swift return to Africa’s premier football tournament.
