Mamelodi Sundowns seal quarter-final spot with win over MC Alger

Mamelodi Sundowns have secured qualification to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League following a convincing 2–0 victory over MC Alger.

Coming into the game, both teams were in high spirits, knowing that a win would significantly boost their chances of progressing to the next round.

The fixture also carried extra significance as MC Alger were led by former Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena.

Sundowns asserted their authority immediately after kick-off, clearly showing their intent to secure all three points. The Brazilians dominated proceedings, while MC Alger struggled to match their intensity and quality.

As early as the sixth minute, Brayan Leon Muñiz drew first blood for Sundowns, giving the hosts a deserved lead. The first half ended 1–0 in favour of the South African champions.

After the break, Sundowns maintained their attacking momentum and continued to pile pressure on the Algerian side. Their persistence paid off when Muñiz completed his brace, scoring his second goal of the evening to seal the win.

With this result, Sundowns progress to the next stage with nine points, finishing behind group leaders Al Hilal, who topped the group with 11 points. MC Alger have been eliminated after finishing third with seven points, while St Eloi Lupopo ended the group at the bottom with five points.
