Maxwell Konadu Front-Runner for Kotoko Return Amid Coaching Search

Former Ghana international coach Maxwell Konadu is reportedly in pole position to take over at Asante Kotoko as the club intensifies its search for a substantive head coach.

The Porcupine Warriors have been without a permanent manager since Abdul Karim Zito stepped aside ahead of last weekend’s Super Clash against Accra Hearts of Oak. Assistant coach Prince Owusu temporarily assumed responsibility for the high-profile encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium, but Kotoko suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat.

In the aftermath of that loss, the club’s leadership is understood to have accelerated efforts to secure a long-term replacement for the remainder of the 2025/26 season and beyond.

Sources close to the club indicate that Konadu has emerged as the preferred candidate, with initial talks already underway.

Konadu’s previous association with the club and deep understanding of its traditions and expectations are said to be key factors behind management’s interest. His experience, including time with the Black Stars, is viewed as an asset as Kotoko aim to steady the ship and rebuild momentum.

Although former Hearts of Oak boss Samuel Boadu was mentioned as a potential option, reservations within sections of the fanbase and club officials reportedly cooled that possibility, particularly over remarks he made during his tenure with Kotoko’s rivals.

With the club eager to restore consistency and push strongly for the remainder of the campaign while planning ahead for next season, Konadu is now widely considered the leading contender for the role.
