Maxwell Konadu Urges Kotoko to Prioritise Character in Search for New Head Coach

Former Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu has urged the club’s hierarchy to prioritise leadership qualities and mental resilience as they search for a new substantive manager.

Kotoko are currently without a permanent head coach following the departure of Karim Zito, with assistant trainer Nana Yaw Owusu stepping in on an interim basis while the board works behind the scenes to secure a long-term appointment.

Sharing his thoughts on the ongoing recruitment process, Konadu emphasised that managing a club of Kotoko’s stature demands more than just tactical knowledge. According to him, the ability to cope with intense scrutiny and high expectations is equally critical.

“It is about who fits the bill,” he explained. “At Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, you need coaches with character to manage the pressure and the fanbase. The club must be patient and choose the right person.”

The Porcupine Warriors are currently fourth in the Ghana Premier League standings with 38 points, trailing leaders Medeama SC by seven points after 23 matches.

As the search continues, attention remains on whether Kotoko will opt for an experienced local figure or look elsewhere for the personality they believe can steer the club forward.
