Nico Williams Dreams of Facing Brother Iñaki Williams in 2026 World Cup

Nico Williams has revealed his dream of facing his older brother Iñaki Williams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in what would be a unique family showdown on football’s biggest stage.

The brothers currently play together at Athletic Club in Spain’s top division, but they represent different national teams. Nico features for the Spain national football team, while Iñaki switched international allegiance to the Ghana national football team in 2022.

Speaking in an interview with FourFourTwo, the Spanish winger admitted that a meeting between the two nations would be a special moment for their family.

“I don’t know if we’ll be able to meet at some point, but I would like to play against my brother — him for Ghana and me for Spain,” Nico said.

Both teams have been drawn into different groups for the tournament, meaning a potential meeting could only happen in the knockout stages.

Spain are placed in Group H alongside Uruguay national football team, Saudi Arabia national football team and Cape Verde national football team. Meanwhile, Ghana will compete in Group L with England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team.

Nico expressed confidence in Spain’s chances but also acknowledged the threat posed by his brother if the two sides eventually meet.

“I hope I can play against him and win, although he’s going to score five goals if we do meet each other,” he joked.

The 21-year-old added that such a moment would be emotional for their parents, who would struggle to decide which side to support.

“I think my parents would have a heart attack because they wouldn’t know who to go with,” he said.

A potential clash between Ghana and Spain would not only be a fascinating sporting contest but also a historic moment for the Williams family.
