In a strategic move aimed at advancing youth development in Ghanaian football, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has named Nurudeen Amadu as the Head Coach of the newly formed male U18 National Team.
This announcement comes as part of the GFA’s broader initiative to establish age category developmental teams, fostering the seamless progression of young players to feed into the competitive male and female national teams.
Amadu, currently at the helm of FC Samartex 1996, the frontrunners in the 2023-24 Ghana Premier League, assumes this pivotal role following approval by the GFA’s Executive Council.
With a wealth of experience as both a head coach and development coach, Amadu previously served as Ghana U-17 Assistant Coach under Paa Kwesi Fabin in 2014. His coaching journey includes stints as Head Coach for two-time Ghana Premier League champions, Aduana Football Club, and King Faisal Babies FC.
Assisting Amadu is Hamza Mohammed Obeng, the Head Coach of Vision FC, a rising star in Ghanaian football coaching.
Obeng, known for his dynamism and tactical acumen, previously served as assistant to Samuel Boadu during their successful tenure at Hearts of Oak in 2021, where they clinched both the Premier League and the FA Cup.
James Nanor, a revered figure in Ghanaian football circles, joins the coaching staff as the Goalkeepers’ Coach, bringing with him a wealth of experience garnered during his illustrious career as a player, notably with Hearts of Oak.
The appointments of Amadu, Obeng, and Nanor align closely with the GFA’s developmental strategy, reflecting the thematic direction outlined in the Ghana Football Philosophy (DNA).
Together, they are tasked with adding significant value to players within the U18 team, preparing them for seamless integration into older age category teams for further development.
As Coach Nurudeen Amadu and his colleagues embark on this journey, they carry the hopes and aspirations of Ghanaian football fans, with the ultimate goal of nurturing and honing the talents of the nation’s youth to secure a bright future for Ghanaian football on the global stage.
