Former Real Oviedo midfielder Kwasi Sibo believes the constant managerial changes at the Spanish club played a major role in their struggles, insisting the coach who guided the team to promotion should have been given more time.
The Ghana international recently became a free agent after his contract expired following Oviedo’s relegation, bringing an end to a spell in which he made 27 appearances for the club.
Reflecting on the season, the 28-year-old admitted that the instability on the bench affected the players, with every new coach introducing different tactical ideas.
“The biggest problem at Oviedo was the constant change of coaches. Every coach came with a different tactical approach, and that made things difficult for the players. Personally, I believe the coach who helped us earn promotion should have been given more time. His points tally wasn’t bad, but the pressure from the fans and the city became too much for the management to ignore.”
Sibo also praised veteran Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla, revealing the former Arsenal star was among those who helped him adapt to life in Oviedo.
“Santi Cazorla is someone the entire city of Oviedo adores. He was one of the people who helped me settle in, along with Eric Bailly and Haissem Hassan. They’re all great guys who supported me a lot.”
Now available on a free transfer, Sibo is expected to secure a new club in the coming weeks as he aims to stay match-fit before Ghana resumes international duty later this year.
