Ghana’s Black Queens maintained their momentum at the Pink Ladies Cup with another authoritative 4-0 victory, this time over Russia, in what was a statement performance ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Stella Nyamekye gave Ghana the early lead inside eight minutes, and Doris Boaduwaa added two goals before halftime to effectively decide the contest. Boaduwaa’s second, her third of the tournament, came just before the break, underlining her sharp form.
Despite dominating for long periods in the second half, it was substitute Ajegipina Zakaria who added the fourth goal with two minutes remaining.
In his post-match interview, coach Kim Lars Björkegren warned that their final group fixture against Tanzania could be a different kind of challenge.
“That’s probably going to be the most tricky one,” he said, “because we play against another African country that absolutely wants to beat us, they will be the underdogs.”
The Black Queens now boast eight goals with no goals conceded as they continue their buildup to WAFCON in Morocco later this month.
