Ghana Black Stars Captain, Andre Ayew, talked about the ongoing debates surrounding the Black Stars leadership and scrutiny it comes with.
Taking over from Asamoah Gyan in 2019 ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, Ayew’s rise to the top causes controversy amid Kwasi Appiah’s decision to take away the captaincy from Gyan, causing the all-time Ghana top scorer to threaten withdrawal from the 2019 AFCON squad.
Addressing the issue at the University of Ghana during his time with some students, Andre Ayew acknowledged the constant scrutiny over the Black Stars’ captaincy.
“The captaincy in our country will always be a topic of debate sooner or later. The next one who comes will spark another debate.
“The next one who comes in 10 years will also lead to another debate. That’s how it is. Anyone who is going to be the leader of a national team should be ready for that because we can’t avoid it.”
