The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has clarified that the latest additions to the Ghana national football team technical bench will not be placed on monthly wages.
As part of preparations toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Ghana Football Association strengthened the senior national team’s backroom staff with five specialists. The new appointments include assistant coaches Alain Ravera and Kim Lars Björkegren, analyst Jose Daniel Martínez Alfonso, psychologist Carlos Lozano Romero, and performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi.
However, Adams stressed in an interview that their engagement is strictly tournament-based and does not include fixed salaries.
“None of them will be on any salary,” he stated. “They are not on monthly pay, but they will benefit from allowances that are given to team members.”
According to the Minister, the arrangement covers per diems, portions of appearance fees, and performance-related bonuses during the World Cup. He emphasized that the contracts are temporary and will lapse once Ghana’s campaign concludes.
“After the World Cup, the contract arrangement ends,” Adams explained. “They will receive some allowances and bonuses, but not full appearance fees. They are entitled to what every team member benefits from — per diems, winning bonuses, and other services — but no salaries.”
He further clarified that Björkegren will continue to earn only his existing wages as head coach of the Black Queens, with no additional monthly remuneration tied to his Black Stars role.
Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Following group-stage exits at the 2014 tournament in Brazil and the 2022 edition in Qatar, the four-time African champions are aiming for a stronger showing in North America.
The GFA has confirmed that the team will set up camp at Bryant University in the United States for the duration of the competition.
