Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey made his first start for Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab on Tuesday, delivering an impressive individual performance before being withdrawn at half-time in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Al Riyadh.
Partey, who made his Al Shabab debut as a substitute over the weekend, was handed a starting role just days later and quickly demonstrated his quality in the middle of the pitch.
The 33-year-old recorded 46 touches and completed 30 of 34 passes, giving him an impressive 88% passing accuracy. He also completed all of his attempted crosses and aerial duels, while making seven passes into the final third.
Partey was equally effective defensively, winning five of seven duels, making three tackles and three clearances, while also creating two chances for his teammates during his 45-minute appearance.
Despite Partey’s withdrawal at the interval, Al Shabab went on to produce an entertaining second half as both sides shared the points in a six-goal encounter.
The performance will provide encouragement for Partey as he continues to settle into life in Saudi Arabia, while his early involvement could also be a major boost for the Black Stars ahead of Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire on September 23 and The Gambia on September 27.
