Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew has expressed the weightiness of wearing the senior national team jersey.
In a recent interview with Canal+, Ayew about the team as they look to prepare for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.
Following a poor show in the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast which saw the Black Stars exited at the tournament in the group phase for the second consecutive time, Ayew remains optimistic about the team’s prospects.
Despite recent disappointments, the 33 year-old believes in the resilience of the Black Stars, stating, “The players start by getting used to it, by understanding what it means to wear this jersey, which means a lot to millions of people.”
He also talked about the significance of the jersey, describing it as “very heavy to wear,” requiring “broad shoulders.” However, he expressed confidence that the team will bounce back, saying, “I know we will bounce back. We work. We are going through a bad time. But we will get through this, I am sure.”
Looking ahead, Andre Ayew aims to participate in his 10th AFCON next year. Additionally, the Le Havre attacker has been nominated for the French Ligue 1’s Goal of the Season Award.
