“We Are Sorry for Losing This Game” – Hamza Obeng After Kotoko Defeat to Karela United

Assistant coach Hamza Obeng has apologised to supporters of Asante Kotoko after the club suffered a disappointing defeat to Karela United in the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors endured a difficult afternoon at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, where they fell to a narrow 1-0 loss in their Matchday 25 clash. Malik Abubakar scored the decisive goal in the first half to hand the home side all three points.

Kotoko’s chances of mounting a comeback were dealt a major blow late in the first half when Henry Ansu was sent off in the 40th minute. The dismissal forced the Kumasi-based club to complete the remainder of the match with ten men, making their task even more challenging.

Speaking after the game, Obeng admitted the result was frustrating and offered an apology to the club’s supporters.

“We are down with the result that we had today, but it’s part of the game. We need to take it aside and concentrate on our next game,” he said.

The assistant coach also acknowledged that the team struggled in front of goal and conceded at a difficult moment during the match.

“Unfortunately for us, we were not able to put the ball in the back of the net, and we conceded that easy goal at the time we were down by one man. We are sorry for losing this game, but the league title race is not over yet.”

The defeat means Kotoko have now lost three of their last five league matches, with their only victory in that run coming in a 2-0 win over Young Apostles FC.

Currently sitting fifth on the league table with 39 points, Kotoko will look to bounce back when they face Nations FC in their next league fixture.
