Black Starlets head coach Mingle has called for competent coaches at the juvenile and colts level to help develop the technical abilities of young footballers across Ghana.
Coach Mingle made the call after conducting an extensive scouting exercise across the country as part of preparations for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship in Burkina Faso.
The coach said his scouting tour exposed him to the abundance of young football talent in different parts of Ghana but also highlighted the need for better foundational coaching.
“I realised that there is a lot of talent across the country. However, you cannot always find a complete player; sometimes, you have to identify raw talent and nurture it,” Coach Mingle said.
He believes the development of young footballers should begin at the grassroots level, where players need to be taught the fundamentals of the game before progressing to higher levels.
“My advice is that the juvenile teams across the country should have competent coaches who can teach the players the basic things, because that is one of the areas we are lacking,” he added.
Coach Mingle said his current Black Starlets squad includes several raw talents who will require further development, particularly in understanding how to play the game.
Unlike previous scouting approaches that often favoured smaller-statured players, the coach said he deliberately selected a number of tall players this time around, with the intention of developing them technically.
The Black Starlets are currently in camp at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with preparations ongoing ahead of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship.
Ghana will also play two international friendly matches against Morocco as part of their preparations before travelling to Burkina Faso for the tournament that starts on 10th October 2025
