Former Ghana international Derek Boateng has highlighted the importance of Thomas Partey’s return ahead of Ghana’s crucial World Cup clash against England.
The Black Stars managed to beat Panama 1-0 in their opening Group L fixture, but Boateng believes Ghana lacked a commanding presence in midfield and could benefit greatly from Partey’s experience against the Three Lions.
“We need him, we really, really need him in the game because you can see that in midfield we don’t have a leader who can control the game, slow the game down and move the ball for us,” Boateng explained.
“I feel it will be very good for us if he comes back and helps the team because we need him.”
England’s aggressive pressing and attacking quality were on full display during their 4-2 victory over Croatia, making midfield control one of the key battles heading into Monday’s encounter.
Partey’s ability to dictate tempo, break up opposition attacks and provide leadership could prove vital as Ghana look to secure a positive result against one of the tournament favourites.
