Former Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has revealed that the intense pressure of leading the Porcupine Warriors negatively affected his health, a reality he only discovered after leaving the club.
Zito, who recently took charge of Division One side FC AshantiGold04, explained that a medical check-up shortly after his resignation exposed how much strain he had been under.
“After I left Kotoko and went to see my doctor, he told me I was fortunate to have come in early,” Zito disclosed. “He realised I was not medically fit, but while I was working, I didn’t notice it myself.”
The experienced trainer admitted that the demands of the role consumed his entire lifestyle, leaving little room for family or rest.
“I was completely absorbed in the job. Everything about me revolved around Kotoko,” he said. “I handled the pressure alone and barely had time for my family. In fact, I only saw them about five times during that period.”
Despite the personal challenges, Zito’s spell at Kotoko produced silverware. After taking over midway through the campaign, he guided the club to lift the MTN FA Cup title.
Now beginning a new chapter with FC AshantiGold04, Zito is channeling his experience into helping the ambitious side push for promotion back to the Ghana Premier League.
