Gold Stars Snatch Late Winner to Sink Hearts and Close in on GPL Summit

Bibiani Gold Stars reignited the Ghana Premier League title race with a dramatic 2-1 triumph over Hearts of Oak at Dun’s Park, trimming the gap at the summit to just a single point.

The Miners made the most of Medeama’s earlier stumble, a stalemate against Swedru All Blacks, by claiming maximum points in front of their home supporters to keep their championship ambitions firmly on track.

It was the hosts who settled quicker into the contest, and their bright start paid off in the 15th minute when Samuel Acheampong broke the deadlock. Gold Stars continued to press for more, but Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare produced a string of fine interventions to prevent further damage before the interval.

After the restart, Hearts of Oak showed greater urgency and composure in possession. Their persistence yielded results midway through the second half as Henry Kwaku Boateng restored parity in the 64th minute, setting up a nervy finale.

Just when the contest appeared headed for a draw, Augustine Boakye emerged as the hero. Deep into stoppage time, he found the decisive touch to snatch victory for the home side, sparking wild celebrations among the Bibiani faithful.

The defeat leaves Hearts trailing the leaders by five points, having failed to build on their recent Super Clash success over Asante Kotoko. Now third on the table, the Phobians remain within touching distance, but the pressure is mounting as the race tightens with only a handful of points separating the frontrunners.
