Interim Kotoko Coach Prince Yaw Owusu Slams Gyau’s Decision-Making After Vision FC Draw

Interim head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has voiced his disappointment over Hubert Gyau’s decision-making in front of goal after Asante Kotoko were held to a goalless draw by Vision FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The stalemate extends a difficult spell for the Porcupine Warriors, who have struggled for consistency in recent weeks. Before Saturday’s encounter, Kotoko had endured two straight defeats but briefly regained confidence with a 2-0 victory over Young Apostles. However, failing to capitalise at home has dealt another setback to their title ambitions.

Speaking after the match, Owusu singled out Gyau’s composure in the final third as a growing concern.
“For the past two weeks, we’ve been having a problem with Gyau in the final third,” Owusu said.

“He had a ball in the first half — it was just a simple tap-in that was needed — but he always wants to shoot. Even during the warm-up it came up.”

The coach disclosed that he had personally advised the midfielder to remain calm and avoid overcomplicating straightforward chances.

“On my way to the dressing room, I told him, ‘Please, just tap it in.’ You are standing right in front of the post; you don’t need to hit the ball that hard,” he explained.

“Sometimes football is about making the easy decision, and in that moment, we didn’t.”

Kotoko’s inability to convert their chances proved costly, as Vision FC held firm to claim a valuable point in Kumasi.

The result leaves Kotoko third in the Ghana Premier League standings with 39 points, now seven adrift of leaders Medeama. With the title race intensifying, Owusu will be eager to see sharper execution in the attacking department if his side are to keep pace at the top.
