Ghana Black Damsels successfully defended their crown after a dramatic 10-9 penalty shootout victory over Burkina Faso in the final of the 2026 CAF African Schools Football Championship.
The contest ended goalless after regulation time, forcing a tense shootout where the Ghanaian girls held their nerve in a marathon battle to seal back-to-back titles.
The victory marks another historic achievement for Ghana at youth level, having also lifted the trophy in the previous edition in Accra with a win over Uganda.
It was also a moment of redemption for the Black Damsels, who had earlier suffered defeats to Burkina Faso during the WAFU B qualifiers and in the group stage of the same tournament.
Under the leadership of Sandra Boakye, Ghana impressed throughout the competition, recording emphatic wins over Guinea (6-0) and Tanzania (2-1), before narrowly losing 1-0 to Burkina Faso in their final group match.
They booked their place in the final with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia in the semi-finals, courtesy of a decisive strike from Blessing Tetteh.
Their triumph in Harare not only secures continental glory but also underlines Ghana’s growing dominance in youth women’s football.
