The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that Ghana will host the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the minister revealed that the country secured the hosting rights without financial expenditure, attributing the success to the influence of John Dramani Mahama and Ghana’s reputation within African football.
“We have won the bid to host the U-20 AFCON, and we did not spend a penny,” he stated.
According to Adams, the decision also ties into plans to mark Ghana’s 70th anniversary next year, with the tournament expected to play a key role in the national celebrations.
Beyond the symbolic significance, hosting the competition is expected to boost youth football development, enhance infrastructure, and create economic opportunities.
The Confederation of African Football will work alongside the Ghana Football Association and a Local Organising Committee to ensure the tournament is successfully delivered.
The hosting rights further strengthen Ghana’s position as a major force in African football and a hub for developing young talent on the continent.
